As some of you may be aware, over the past couple of months GMK, in conjunction with Macpherson + Kelly lawyers and Semma (South East Melbourne Manufacturing Alliance) have been collecting & collating the results of our Salary Survey report for the South East Suburbs.
The results are now in and over the past 2 weeks we have been visiting our current clients and local businesses in the South East, dropping out the surveys and getting to know people and their businesses in local area, which has been great.
After the results arrived at our office, l sat down at my desk to organise times to meet with people to discuss our findings of the survey and after making my first three phone calls l was astounded by the response! Firstly l was wrapped as the three clients l had spoken with were all very positive about the survey but much more surprising was the question asked of me by all three people – How much does it cost?
“Well, nothing” I replied. “Just 10 – 20 minutes of your time” was my response. After hanging up the phone l realised something really sad - people are surprised, even skeptical when you have information to offer them that may be helpful that does not cost them anything!
Why is this???
After raising this topic with a few of the clients l met with, they advised me that they do receive many calls on a weekly and daily basis from recruiters and sales consultants all trying to sell them something, so, when someone calls to give them something they wonder what the ‘catch’ is.
I am proud to say that GMK are passionate about the South East, we believe that this is ‘our patch’ and if we can add value to your business with some relative information, we are more than happy to meet with you for a coffee and a chat.
Several visits down the track, what l have found most refreshing about the visits is that although everyone is extremely busy, most people have allowed half an hour to discuss the findings of the survey and ensure that their staff are within or above the average pay brackets. There is also a keen interest in the growth in the South East and local candidates who are available to work in local businesses.
